Under the hood, the 2020 Mazda3 gives you an impressive powertrain. It’s a 2.5-liter powerplant that can output up to 186 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. This is a lot compared to the standard 139 horsepower and the 126 pound-feet of torque provided by the Corolla standard. The Corolla does have an available powerplant upgrade, but you have to pay a lot more to get there, and you still only get 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque.
In terms of features, the 2020 Mazda3 provides keyless access on every trim level making it so you never have to fumble for your keys to get into the driver’s seat. The Mazda3, like the Corolla, is offered as both a sedan and a hatchback, but in either configuration, the Mazda3 provides more cargo room.
Finally, we come to our last point, and it’s a big one. Most compact cars don’t even think about all-wheel drive as an option, leaving you with front-wheel drive as the only choice. The Mazda3 isn’t like that. Almost all trim levels are available with all-wheel drive. Mazda has truly made an impressive compact.
