Maintenance Tips for High-Mileage Vehicles in Bloomington, IN

Do you have a go-to vehicle that has seen you through many adventures? If so, then it’s important to take specialized care for high-mileage vehicles to ensure you can get the most out of your favorite Mazda models. We here at Royal South Mazda have prepared this short overview to help, but if you have any questions, you can always Ask a Tech.

Oil Changes

An oil change is required for every vehicle with a combustion engine, but when your car has endured many miles, then it becomes even more important. Normally, an oil change is recommended once a year, but with a high-mileage vehicle that goes to every six months or every 3,000-5,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is due to the fact that engine components have already been damaged through regular wear and tear from drives down Route 46 and need to be taken care of with more frequency. It’s also important to note that there are specific oil types that are better suited to help with these types of vehicles. These often contain seal conditioners that help reduce oil leaks. Once you’ve switched to this type of oil, it's recommended to stay with it.

Transmission

Your Mazda CX-50 or Mazda3 will also require more frequent transmission and brake fluid checks as well when they gain more miles. Be sure to inspect these levels every 30,000 miles or when recommended by a technician. Much like the oil in the engine, higher mileage cars often face more stress which means the transmission and brake fluids need to be replaced more often. Both of these help to ensure that your car works well in Bloomington and beyond. Transmission fluid ensures the smooth changing of gears while brake fluid is required to make the vehicle slow down. If you notice any issues with these, then be sure to schedule a service appointment with us.

Battery Care

The battery within your vehicle is responsible for storing and supplying power to the lights, sound system, climate control, and even steering. It’s also necessary to start the vehicle, since the ignition process needs a jolt of electricity. Be sure to frequently check the battery for any corrosion or rust that can build up on the terminals and to clean them off carefully. It's a good idea to ensure that the car doesn’t go too long without being activated, so take it to Bryan Park Pool often. Driving for at least 30 minutes helps to ensure the battery is fully charged. If the car struggles to start, then it could also mean that the battery is facing other issues. Be sure to come to our Service Department for help in maintaining your high-mileage Mazda.

Service department is great! Easy to make an appointment and they have always been ready for me at my appointment time. They have been respectful of my time and very thorough in their services. For even a basic service they do a nicely comprehensive check on the car and send you a video of, all the things they checked it’s very cool. I highly recommend them.

I didn't buy my car here but sent it for regular maintenance a few times. Each time was an enjoyable experience. They were always friendly and never tried to sell me stuff I didn't need. I was sad when I got a new car and had to find another dealership for services!

We have had a very good experience with this dealership.

We have had a very good experience with this dealership. They were very upfront with their pricing. They had the suv that we were looking for in stock. They are not pushy but very knowledgeable about their businesses. Overall a very good dealership.

Service was the best I have had since having a car in the last 35 years.

Service was the best I have had since having a car in the last 35 years. I did not have an appointment and they got me in for service. Everyone from the Service writer to the service tech was professional and nice to work with. Price for my oil change and inspection was very competitive and worth the 5-star service I recieved. They also sent me a Video of the service so I could see what was completed...Just top tier in my book. I will continue to go there with my MX-5 until it's dying day.

Everyone is very nice, helpful, and understanding from a phone call all the way to leaving the lot.

Everyone is very nice, helpful, and understanding from a phone call all the way to leaving the lot. I brought car in for an inspection, I LOVED the explanation video that was sent to me of the inspection. Not only did it make me feel a little more a part of the process, it gave me an excellent run down of everything that needed done and an accessible means of sharing with those who understand cars better than I do. Thank you very much!
