The Mazda engine is able to out-perform the engine powering the Ford, producing 187 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque, compared to the Escape's 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque.

The Mazda engine is more efficient as well, earning 24 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highways. The Escape checks in at 23 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highways.

Both the 2017 Mazda CX-5 and Ford Escape are offered in multiple trim levels. Mazda CX-5 shoppers can choose from four trim levels, while the Ford Escape is only offered in three models. The increased number of trim levels allows the Mazda to offer even more variety to customers.
