Engine options and performance in the 2020 Mazda CX-5
If you’re looking for an exceptional performance SUV, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 is probably just what you’ve been waiting for. This compact SUV is a fan favorite for a reason. While not marketed as a luxury SUV, the CX-5 shares many qualities of a higher-priced luxury SUV, especially once you get into the Grand Touring Reserve or Signature trim levels. Today, though, we’re going to look at the engine options and performance it has under the hood.
Because Mazda understands that drivers are all different, they have options for the 2020 CX-5. It comes with two different engine options. The first is the base SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, which has proven year after year to be a quality engine. It gets 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Drivers who upgrade to the Grand Touring Reserve or Signature trim levels will be treated to a SKYACTIV®-G 3.5L 4-cylinder Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine. This engine, introduced for the CX-5 for the 2019 model year, has been enhanced even further and now produces up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
Performance is about more than just the engine, and the CX-5 puts that on full display. Each model comes with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift and Sport Mode as well as available i-ACTIV AWD® with Off-road Traction Assist. This all-wheel drivetrain system can predict when the weather or road conditions may warrant switching to all-wheel drive and will responsively optimize power to the wheels without any necessary actions from the driver.
